10D7N Iceland Northern Light Expedition

Chase the dancing green lights of the Aurora Borealis on this 10-day, 7-night expedition through the land of fire and ice. Trace the legendary Golden Circle past the rift valley of Thingvellir, the erupting Geysir and thundering Gullfoss, then follow Iceland’s dramatic south coast to the waterfalls of Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss, the black-sand shores of Reynisfjara and the floating icebergs of Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. Keflavik
A town in the Reykjanes region in southwest Iceland. Combined with the nearby town of Njardvik, its population was 15,129 as of 2016. Arrive at the airport and transfer to the hotel to rest before the journey begins.
Day 3

Thingvellir National Park
Founded in 1930 and designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004, Thingvellir is the most important cultural site and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Iceland.
Geysir Hot Springs
A popular geothermal area where visitors can wander among bubbling mud pools and steaming landscapes, including the active Strokkur geyser that erupts every few minutes.
Gullfoss Falls
Also known as the “Golden Falls,” one of Iceland’s most spectacular waterfalls, set in the canyon of the Hvita river. Together with Thingvellir and the geysers, Gullfoss forms part of the Golden Circle — an incredible sight you are not likely to forget.
Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights)
A beautiful and mysterious phenomenon that occurs when solar winds interact with the Earth’s magnetic field, sending high-energy particles into the atmosphere to collide with gas molecules and produce brilliant lights. The best season runs from September to April, with the most frequent sightings between 6pm and 1am.

Hella → Seljalandsfoss (34KM, 45M) → Skogafoss (29KM, 30M) → Myrdalsjokull (10KM, 10M) → Reynisfjara (25KM, 30M) | Meal: B / L / D
Seljalandsfoss Waterfall
Located on Iceland’s south coast, this waterfall drops 60 metres and is fed by the Seljalands River, which originates in the Eyjafjallajokull glacier volcano. Visitors can walk behind the falls into a small cave.
Skogafoss Waterfall
One of the largest and most elegant waterfalls in Iceland, measuring 25 metres wide with a cascade that drops 60 metres.
Black Sand Beach
The most famous black-sanded beach in Iceland and one of the best known in the world — a place of wild, dramatic beauty where the roaring Atlantic waves crash ashore with tremendous force.
Basalt Rock Column
Towering hexagonal basalt columns at Reynisfjara, formed by slowly cooling lava, rising from the black-sand shoreline beside the pounding surf.
Eyjafjallajokull Volcano Snow Cap
The glacier-covered ice cap crowning the Eyjafjallajokull volcano, famous worldwide for its 2010 eruption. (Visibility is subject to weather and may be obscured on cloudy days.)
Myrdalsjokull Hike to the Glacier
Only about a 30-minute walk from base, the trail crosses a varied landscape shaped by the glacier over thousands of years, revealing how rapidly the ice has retreated in recent years. (Opportunity to meet a natural ice cave — subject to natural phenomena.)

Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon
A large glacial lake in southeast Iceland that formed as the glacier receded from the edge of the Atlantic. Now the deepest lake in Iceland at over 248 metres, it is considered one of the country’s natural wonders, appearing as a ghostly procession of luminous blue icebergs.
Diamond Beach
A strip of black sand on the Breidamerkursandur glacial plain beside the lagoon. As the lagoon’s icebergs melt and drift out to sea, many wash back ashore — a magnificent spot at both sunrise and sunset as light glints through the ice.
Vatnajokull Viewpoint
A viewpoint over Vatnajokull, Iceland’s largest ice cap and the source of the many glaciers that feed the Jokulsarlon lagoon.
Day 6
Hella → Barnafoss (200KM, 3H) → Borgarnes (65KM, 1H) | Meal: B / L
Hraunfossar Waterfall
A series of crystal-clear cascades that seep from beneath a lava field and spill into the Hvita river, stretching for nearly a kilometre along the bank.
Barnafoss (Children’s Falls)
Just above Hraunfossar lies the famous Barnafoss, the “children’s fall.” By legend it takes its name from two children who fell into the waterfall — a story of a mother and her two young children.
Day 7
Borgarnes → Snaefellsjokull Excursion — Arnarstapi & Bardur Snaefellsnes (17KM, 1H) → Londrangar Rock (10KM, 20M) → Kirkjufellsfoss (49KM, 1H) → Borgarnes (120KM, 2H) | Meal: B / L
Gatklettur Rock Viewpoint
A famous, naturally formed stone arch found along the coast between the villages of Arnarstapi and Hellnar on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula.
Bardur Snaefellsas Statue
A large stone statue at Arnarstapi depicting Bardur Snaefellsas, the legendary half-troll guardian spirit of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula from Icelandic saga.
Londrangar Rock
A pair of dramatic volcanic lava pinnacles, the Londrangar basalt cliffs, jutting out from the sea along the coastline.
Kirkjufellsfoss Waterfall
Set on the Kirkjufellsa river on the northern side of the Snaefellsnes Peninsula, this five-metre fall flows over several levels into three separate spouts. Before it rises the pyramid-shaped Mount Kirkjufell, one of the most scenic peaks in Iceland.
Day 8
Borgarnes → Reykjavik (78KM, 1H) → Keflavik (73KM, 1H) | Meal: B / L
Hallgrimskirkja Church
One of Reykjavik’s most notable landmarks and the largest church in Iceland. Standing 73 metres tall, its tower can be seen from almost everywhere in the city.
Sun Voyager Sculpture
A stainless-steel sculpture by Jon Gunnar Arnason beside the Saebraut road in Reykjavik, representing a voyage following the sun.
Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre
A striking glass concert hall and conference centre on Reykjavik’s harbour, its honeycomb facade of coloured glass inspired by Iceland’s basalt landscape.
Blue Lagoon
Probably Iceland’s most famous geothermal hot spring, with its striking milky-blue waters. A place to relax your cares away and smear mineral mud on your face, conveniently located near the airport.
